Houdini Error

Hello and Happy New Year!

I'm aiming to learn Houdini. I'm following along this training program on Lynda.com, and so far things are not so optimal. The problem being the error message I see every time I open the project file Lynda provided for me.

I'm guessing since because this Houdini that I have (Houdini 16.5.323) is newer, it's not going to work well.
It says:

Warning

/out/mantra_ipr:

Skipping unrecognized parameter “output5”.

I can still open the project and follow along to some extent, but eventually it crashes when I do simple stuff: Like toggling on and off the Display Flag on a Node.

If anyone can offer any help, solution, or explain why this is happening, that would be great. I'll take this as another learning experience.

Also to add, when I start up Houdini by itself, it runs great, no error messages.

The load warning is almost certainly unrelated to the crash. Unrecognized parameters are usually not an issue unless you're using a version of some asset that is incompatible with the version the HIP file originally used.

If you can provide a sequence of steps that reliably reproduce the crash, please submit a bug report at https://www.sidefx.com/bugs/submit/ [www.sidefx.com] and attach the HIP file, and the text that appears in Help > About Houdini > Show Details. You can click the Save button to save the text in a file and attach that to the bug.

I have EXACTLY the same problem with the same Tutorial - “Lynda-Houdini Essential Training”.

Same error message and crashes each and every time!

Also using the same version of Houdini (Non-Commercial)

Hi MIDIManNI. I have the same recommendation for you as for BuddaZero above:

Hopefully we can figure out what's going wrong.

3 years later...

I'm not getting a crash but am looking for how to proceed when an update to Houdini results in this kind of warning on opening older files. Would have been good if the thread hadn't been abandoned

nothing. Load warnings are typically benign. The ones to watch out for are errors when loading a scene using nodes that are no longer available. Warnings usually happen when HDA's change and layouts differ from what is stored in the scene file.
