There was a little nerd talk at work and we were debating how much Houdini uses up ram bandwidth. Curious if anyone actually knows?

You can measure it yourself [software.intel.com], except this would be meaningless You get amount of GB/s but you don't know what application was actually doing to make this number big or small.

One needs to know the theoretical throughput of the computation in question and compare it with actual traffic. Something along that [codearcana.com].

FWIW, the only time I have actually noticed RAM speed being the limiting performance issue, in any application, is when clearing massive RAM caches in Houdini.

there is actually talk about rendering fur, where people who updated to higher clocked RAM got better results.

Using Mari thrashes the system ram continuously as all the textures have to go back and forth between the gpu and main ram while painting/baking and navigating…
