Sprite rendering of a particle SOP

You don't have to get your particles from SOPs to POPs. Just append an attribcreate SOP, and set the Name field to “spriteshop” (no quotes). Then change the Type to String, and put the full path of the sprite shader into the String field (eg, /shop/v_decal1).
The do the usual sprite stuff in the render tab of the object that contains this SOP network, and you're done.
