Why does my poly extrude mess up my point numbers

Is there some way to reset or reassign the point numbers after a poly extrude?

What is it your wanting to do overall.

The point numbers haven't changed after a polyextrude. Your creating new geometry from the existing geometry; Its not that the polyextrude is extending the existing points and then filling in between them.

It's creating a duplicate and extending that.

I am poly extruding a sweep to get 3d shape, but extrude gives me a stepped result. I am trying to loop over the points using a wrangle node so that I can try to average out the point locations. once the poionts are stacked i was going to try to fuse the points that are in the same position.

basically I want to get the left side to look like the right side.

actually I found a different way to do the transform after the extruding, and now I don't get the stepping any more.
