Hello!
Yup, it's me again, Mr Thickie, so the Houdini guys at the studio have asked me to lend a hand again on one of their projects and the the thing I am doing would be really easy I think if I could just convert some geo deformers on the character into a pop network - but I want to do it as a pop network and not as a copy stamp on the geometry so I can reuse some pop stuff I did before. So .. … how do I do that? Should I use a softbody? I am too shy to ask the guys cos' they will just call me Mr. Maya thickie as usual. Maybe you could give me a pointer pretty please?

Your subject line says you want to convert points to particles - is that the question you are asking?
And it seems from your softbody comment that you actually want to retain the underlying connectivity of the points - is that right? If so, then you probably want to use DOPs and the POP Shape Match node - there is a good example in the helpcard for that node, that should get you started.
Of course, if that's not the question you are asking, then please elaborate.
