Hello!

I was excited to install 17.5 and try out the Heightfield Mask by Shadow node (http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/nodes/sop/heightfield_maskbyshadow.html). The problem is that I cannot find it in Houdini. And the same thing goes for my colleagues. Does anyone know what's going on?

Thank you!

the answer is at the link you posted:
http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/nodes/sop/heightfield_maskbyshadow.html
This node type is hidden. It is no longer supported.
however I don't know the reasons behind as it seems useful
you can still unhide it at your own risk

Thank you, Tomas! It worked like a charm. I don't know how I missed that… Maybe because I was expecting it to be a brand new node. And yes, it's a very useful node!

Actually, I spoke too soon.

I get this error at times when changing direction and angle:

OpenCL Exception: clFinish (-36)
OpenCL Context error: CL_OUT_OF_RESOURCES error executing CL_COMMAND_READ_BUFFER on GeForce GTX 1080 (Device 0).

Any ideas on how to fix this? The work around now is restarting Houdini. Thanks!

I made a wrangle node that makes a mask from the shadow of a directional light or a point light.
It is not very optimized but it can be optimized and converted to openCL for instance to make it a lot more faster.

Hej Erik Sounds like gpu is out of memory? Tried reducing the heightfield size?
