On the IPR render I notice subtle imperfections that are not meant to be there.
The imperfections(artifacts) are indentations along some to base mesh edges.

Why are they there?

I am creating vector displacement maps from mudbox.

Cheers!

What shader are you using? If it's the principaled shader, it should take care of displacement bounds. If it's something you made yourself, it won't do this by default.

If it is principaled shader, in the dicing tab, try turning on “full predicting” at the object level of your geo.

…this sort of knowledge that Sean suggested is a good example of what I think many Houdini users like myself would really appreciate having;

A tutorial by SideFX or even paid catagory by independent that can go into explanations of the many elements of using mantra.

Because there is so much to it (seems to me), just plugging away(different parameter settings and combinations of) through trial and error might get the desired results, but it can be a very long road.

But that aside, appreciation to guys like mrCatfish, jsmack, tamte, etc. for providing tidbits like this.
