If it's just to freeze at a specific frame…yes that's pretty simple if you don't mind using a solver too.
However, if your going to freeze for a given frame range(freeze at a frame then continue after a certain interval of frames that have passed - then yes, that can start to be a hassle - depending on what's going on in your scene).
Here's just freezing hip.
