My background is math/cs. I started learning Houdini a few months ago and absolutely love it!
I'm currently learning about particles and have a question about the randomness of the velocity of new particles. At first I assumed the “variance” in the velocity was the variance of a normal distribution. But that doesn't seem to be the case. I generated several thousand random values for the velocity and looked a plot for their distribution, and the values are, by default, bounded in .
But they aren't uniformly distributed.
Q: Does anyone know what random distribution is used to generate the velocities of each particle?
Thanks!
