Hello,

When rendering with Renderman (rman1 ROP), I get a red flag error saying:

could not open the script or pipe
could not write out the script or pipe
failed to complete render : rman1

What's wrong and how can I correct this?

Using Houdini 8.1 and Renderman pro Server 12

thanks,

From the looks of it, seems either something wrong with access rights, or maybe a firewall problem.
Is this on windows?
Can you render with other rman renderers, or it's specific to rman only?

Hello,

it's on Windows XP.

Renderman installed on system…Licensing OK (Server)

Does it need a special set-up to work with Houdini?
Do I have to assign environment variables are something special in Houdini?
( in the Renderman ROP , and what?)

If I choose “View Renderman” I get also an error…

thanks,

isn't it the time that someone prepare a little, step by step tutorial, how to do it? with the right envinroment settings and telling what to do in houdini. is it so hard? i am sure it is not. so a voluntered is needed.

Hello,

now it works… I had to set the environment variable :

PATH= %RMANTREE%\bin

I'd simplify, leave Houdini out of the loop and just use the command line “render” to render a RIB you've generated. Odds are this is an rman issue and you should talk to them about it - Houdini might just be confusing the issue. Houdini just uses existing paths to find rman and then relies on pixar's code to deal with licensing issues.

Cheers,

The standard test to see if PRMan is working is to go do the following

cd $RMANTREE/etc/setup
make

It will run prman and compare it to a test image to make sure everything is running right. If that doesn't work just give RenderMan Customer Support a call, they are a helpful bunch.
