When I re-open a file and select a topnet to dive into it, it would trigger an annoying auto-cook of the whole graph, which can lead to overwrite files.
How to avoid this auto-cook?

If the TOP network is in a SOP network, it will cook automatically like a SOP if it's part of the displayed chain of SOP nodes. If you want it to not auto-cook you can place the TOP network in a different context, such as /out or /obj.

Oh, this makes very sense.
Thanks for the tip, so I will just create an object network inside my hda to store the topnet.
cheers

Also, you can set the Updates to Manual. It is a setting in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. It is also problematic tho as I get used to it updating automatically, when I set it to manual and forget about it…making a change and not seeing an immediate result can cause many “DOH” moments.
