In Houdini 17.5.432, support for quad topology mesh generation has been added. Also a while back, support was added for uploading a mesh that has quad topology as input. Therefore, you'll now be able to roundtrip a quad mesh from and to Houdini, in Unity. By default, the plugin will always convert everything to triangles which can increase vertex count, but using quads should keep same number of vertices.
