I love OSX and to go alongmy workstation as a freelancer i need to replace my old macbook pro.
This new release is a major step, it's a beast for a laptop and OSX is just a smart OS
Okay yeah i wish as well Apple didn't gave up Nvidia but do Sidefx support it , GPU speaking…?
Thanks

OCL is deprecated but still working on OSX, I'm running Houdini just fine on a 2018 Mac Book and it feels pretty zippy. I'm sure the new model is even faster, I'm actually considering buying one as well.
SideFX seems committed to the OSX platform, and Apple seems committed to SideFX.

Well, according to that list neither my PC with RTX 2080 ti or my MBP17 with 560x is supported.
That list seems very odd to me. (old and not updated?)

I picked the new 16” with 32 gb ram and 8gb card yesterday and Houdini runs pretty fast on it. Loving the laptop so far.

Awesome! Can you test h18 on it and see if Karma etc runs fast enough to be usable? On my MPB with 4 cores it is unusable in current state.

Good to hear - you just don't get SideFx support using an unsupported gpu.

I would be very surprised if they did not support any current Apple Mac model, particularly the MacBook Pro.

Think of it as being compatible.
If you get a bug then Support can point to the official list and decide that you are running a machine that is unsupported.
Your call in the end if you want that risk.

SideFx always seem to be very keen to improve their product, so I would have thought that they would want to know if a Houdini user was having issues on a new MacBook Pro so that they could get them fixed.
If they were not going to support Houdini on new Apple hardware then why appear on stage with Apple at the 2019 WDC?
But if anyone is worried that they might not get support before splashing out then they could always contact support to check that they will receive support using Houdini on a new Mac.

I think it's simply a matter of the AMD 5000 series mobile not being tested and certified yet. I'll check to see if that's planned.

That's really great. The new Mac Pro can also be configured with an AMD Radeon Pro 580X. It would be nice to see if that GPU can be certified too.
