Duplicate LOP: create as child of source?

(Using 18.0.499 here)

I have been trying to use a Duplicate LOP so that the duplicate winds up nested under the source primitive, like a parent/child relationship in the scenegraph. I figured using the “Separate source/dest prims” option would let me do this, but it doesn't seem to. If I enable that option and feed it my source primitive as the destination prim, with just a test string for the name, nothing gets created at all.

Is it possible to use a Duplicate LOP to create duplicates that are in fact nested hierarchically under the source prim?

Wouldn't that create recursion? I don't think you can have a hierarchy where a child prim references its parent.

Is there a simple way to make the duplicate copies totally independent? Like adding a new primitive for each copy?
Man I could not find a way to do this.

Thanks.
