Hello people!
How would you recreate this rigging method using houdini?

Thank you!

There is a ribbon generator in the sweep node and a rather easy way of twisting rigs with a rigattribwrangle.

Unfortunately no, there is a new rigging system in 18.5 worth learning.

It's possible with H18, you just need to create the bones at the OBJ level instead. There's actually more learning material for that right now. See the “OBJECT LEVEL RIGGING” section at https://www.sidefx.com/learn/characters/ [www.sidefx.com] .

Having said that, yeah, I recommend going to 18.5 and learning the new KineFX system as well if you don't have an actual requirement to use H18. The object level rigging system will eventually be deprecated.

PS. For something like this, if you just care about bending and twisting, why not just use the Bend SOP directly to deform? example attached.
