Hi,
I'm planning to buy new laptop which would be capable of handling Houdini to the point I would be able to learn most of it if not everything (obviously not talking about rendering a movie or so). I know desktop would be better but it's not an option for me as I keep moving quite a lot.
I ended up with following specs, could you tell me if it's sufficient? To be honest I hope so because it really hits the price limit I can invest (this is around £1700).

AMD Ryzen 9 3900 12 Core CPU (3.1GHz-4.3GHz/70MB CACHE/AM4)
64GB Corsair 2666MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 32GB)
NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2070 - 8.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
1TB PCS 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb (520MB/R, 470MB/W
512GB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (2000 MB/R, 1100 MB/W)
Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit

Also this laptop has a 1920x1080 screen which is lower resolution than Houdini requirements. It can be overcome by external screen but does the resolution really matter?

Thank you for your answers

What do you want to learn?
Houdini is not only about vfx, so you can learn already a lot with those specs.

I'd be more worried about the screen, I highly recommend an external monitor for your mental health and comfort in development and easiness to follow tutorials (on your laptop screen)

I use a 34" wide screen at 3440x1440

Yes, screen is important, but talking about mental health, I'd suggest to use any of these Linux distros:

I have 1920x1080 on my laptop and it's fine for Houdini. Maybe a little cramped for space sometimes, but not a big deal overall.

Thank you all for replies, I will try it like it is and I can buy new monitor anytime in the future. I don't really understand Linux much so Win will be ok for now as well..
