Hello guys,

i am trying to create an alembic file of a mesh, i would like to include several elements, the final mesh will not be animated per se, but used as a scatter element ( from one single mesh to a certain amount of them all togheter).

the structure of the mesh is the following:

Main mesh which have been merged from different parts like so:

inside the main vial i have this structure which include, the main mesh and the dust/fibers like so:

i forgot to mention it could be a redshift proxy too, but i can't find any info on how to do it.

is it possible to export the mesh with the fibers/dust and the shaders in alembic format? and if yes how?
thank you

If I were you I would either make groups for different parts like dust and fibers and main geo and export them as a single alembic file. This way you can assign materials to each group. Another option would be to export them separately as 3 alembic files.

Ok so create groups and then export one alembic would be a good idea, do you know where i can find documentation on how to do it properly?

Thank you

I think you can give Entagma's tutorial a try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h15stU-TaE [www.youtube.com]

It is about exporting from Houdini to Blender with alembic but should work for your case as well. (First 4 minutes might even be enough)

You're welcome and hopefully this'll solve your issues.

For something this complex if you want to have it self contained rs proxy sounds easier unless it's not flexible enough for your needs
