How to procedurally prevent fuse "pinching"

So, I'm running various bits of geo through a for loop, and one of SOPs in it is a fuse. It's simply there to reduce the point count. (Realtime target export) However, one of the things I keep running into is situations like this:

Naturally, reducing the Snap Distance fixes this, but I need that distance at a minimum to keep the point count down. I tried swapping to the "Closest Target Point" mode, and while that fixes this issue in one place, it causes the same pinching in another. Curious if there's a way to detect two prims connected by only one vert/point.
