Autorig editing

Hi All

I have a problem with autorig , and I have not found a solution to it . So I have created an autorig with no geometry attached.
The rig is done and should work nicely just I cannot bind a model to it.
Do I need to start all over again with setting the operator to /obj/source_geo , or is there a way to make it work with a custom geo ?
Also I would like to change the really basic bone models to a custom one that represents my character better.

If someone could help me out that would be amazing !
