These following steps constantly cause a crash on H19 - latest prod build and latest daily build.
Make sure you 'source houdini_setup' and then 'export LD_PRELOAD="/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc_malloc_debug.so.0" from the terminal or H19 will not start on Ubuntu - munmap_chunk() error followed by a core dump.

Aftern this...

On Ubuntu 21.10, NVIDIA 1080 Ti, driver 470.74.

- Start Houdini
- Click and create simple FX: Simple Aerial explosion, Simple Fireball or Simple Bonfire
- Switch Pyro solver to Minimal (but seems to crash with Sparse as well)
- Press play to sim till approximately frame 30
- Go to Out context and create a Karma node
- Press 'Karma Viewport' button.
- Switch Persp to Karma in the viewport
-> Crash...
See 'OpenCL Exception: clEnqueueReleaseGLObjects (-5). 16630: Fatal Error: Segmentation fault sent by pid 0.

Thank you

Hi. Yes I have been logging all the bugs and sidefx support (Jenny) has been fantastic, but that doesn’t negate my question. I literally haven’t been able to use karma rop for anything and no matter what I do it either crashes immediately or after a few minutes of usage.

I also get a crash with Karma in the viewport with a test scene, runs fine in mplay, I run Linux Mint 20, havn't tested it on Ubuntu though!

I've been installing Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 20, CentOS 8, Pop OS all day. All of the crash with Karma. None of them display anything in a stage viewport.

Some input on who runs what successfully within Solaris would be a great start.

I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing this. And btw this is karma cpu not xpu. Thought it was supposed to be prod ready

I'm very confident Karma itself is production-ready, as we're in the midst of setting up a TV commercial production.

I wonder what's going on on Linux Desktops, though.

Check out this thread and run all the commands (reinstalls and installs). Worked like magic for me.

I saw this appear in the Changelogs last night, perhaps it's related?

Houdini 19.0.433 When a system isn't configured properly (we need libopengl0 installed on Ubuntu), Houdini should no longer crash when switching to Karma for rendering.

Maybe make sure that library is installed? And update your build...

Is there a list of dependencies for RHEL distro’s ?
I installed all the dependencies on the installation page, and the lops vieuwport is still not working.

This got fixed by installing maya dependaancies

sudo dnf install libpng15 libpcre16.so.0 libGLU.so.1 libGLU xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-100dpi xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi

I think it was libGLU that fixed it
