Is the “Automatically Compute Normals” toggle a replacement for the “Smooth Shading” toggle in H8?

If it isn't, may I know what is the Rendering parameter to turn off Smooth Shading?

Yes. In essence, this is what the “smooth shading” option did in H8.2.
