since Unity 5 is now 64-bit, will Houdini Engine Indie 14.0.258 64-bit work with that?

Have you tried to install 64-bit Houdini version? Was there option to install it for Unity5?

Yes, the Unity plug-in that comes with the 64-bit versions of Houdini on Windows and Mac work with Unity 5. We want to do some testing before labelling this as production ready - please post any issues to the Houdini Engine for Unity forum.
