Does anyone know of a tutorial on the Orbolt Rain tool with SIDEFX as the Author? I have downloaded and hooked it up with what appears to be right but I can't seem to get gravity working. Any documentation or insight would be most helpful. I have attached both the original tool and How I hooked it up.

Thanks for any help you may have,

After going node to node bypassing pieces I have determined the error is in the vopsop_friction node but I still have no idea what is causing the error. Any ideas?

Hello,
Have you managed to make it work? I'm completely new in Houdini, just getting started. The rain asset is working in the viewport but I don't know what kind of material should I apply to render it. A complete noob in H.
I also wish there would be tutorials/manuals attached to those assets, great way to learn.

Hi, I used this asset recently and the way I rendered it was to add the “vdb from particles” node, the “convert vdb” node and use the “basic liquid material” from the gallery.

There is probably other ways to do this but it worked for what I needed. I've added a screenshot for the settings I used on the nodes but you'll need to see what works for you.

Thank you so much robdesign!
I still feel extremely lost in Houdini (all my knowledge from 3dsmax or Blender + some Maya doesn't really apply here ), but I'm trying to fight that in my limited spare time.

Your screenshots were extremely helpful, I really appreciate grabbing them to explain your solution. I can see some stuff in first test renders so that's progress

Two questions (out of millions):
In VDB from Particles you've got a Point Attribute: V.
I cannot do that, there are no Point Attributes to choose from a list when I add one. I don't see any nodes adding this attribute in your network. Where does it come from?
How does it help in this setup?

I'm glad to be of any help, I'm very new to Houdini myself.

I was experimenting a lot during the project and accidently left that V point attribute on. (It's not needed) Sorry for the confusion.

V comes from the VFX rain node. (Velocity) If you middle click on the node, you can see details including the point attributes. I didn't add anything extra so it should be there as default.

My main purpose for using these two nodes is to create velocity trails with the vdb and then skin them into polys. It suited my needs but I expect there are ways to take it further or do it better with a completely different method.
