Hi All,

I am looking for a way to add procedural texture to the base color of a Mantra Surface. I can enable use map, but that only let's me browse to an image. I want to use some kind of noise.

Is that simple task built-in to Houdini or does that require modifying the Mantra Material itself at the node level?

It's super easy - just jump into the Mantra surface, press ‘/’ key and search for ‘diffuse’, then plug in your procedural to BaseColor of the DiffuseColor node.

Also try MMB on the BaseColor and choose one from the menu 8)

Thank you Marty, I guess I do have to modify the actual material at the node level. Middle Click is a nice menu to get going.

I did find an alterate way via mapping 2D textures from COPs into the Map field, once activated.

Circus Monkey has a nice tip on his website.

You can fetch the 2D pixel information directly from COPs by typing a special path to the COP network that holds the 2D texture. Prefix the path text with ‘op:’.
opimg/img1/OUT_TEXTURE

This is more C4D esk as far as material manipulation is concerned.
