Unable to Cache Pyro Sim using the output node

Hello All,
I just started learning Houdini a few days ago and I was trying to follow the “
PYRO FX | SIM CACHE” tutorial on the website to learn how to cache the simulations to disk. I tried the first method involving the DOP IO node and it works fine but the second method involving the output node doesn't seem to do anything. When I click on “save to disk” there is no reaction, and when I click “save to disk in background” and check the scheduler the task completes in 2 seconds without caching anything. Is this a limitation in the apprentice version or do I need to do something before I can use this method? I basically have a simple geometry around which the “billowy smoke” network is built, all settings at default value(I was experimenting with voxel resolution so that's the only thing I touched).

Appreciate any advice.

Regards,
Ihab

So I added a file node after the output node, set the Operation Mode to write and that seemed to write the .sim files(had to set the output to the file node as opposed to the output node). Still not sure why the output node is not working when I click “Save to disk”.

Is this a limitation in Apprentice? Does the same limitation exist in the Indie version(which is what I'm planning on purchasing)?
