Any one out there using Houdini on a Mac having render problems. I am using Houdini Apprentice 13.0.582 on OS X 10.9.5 and when rendering the render view just says Generating Scene. This happens when rendering just grid, it just hangs at that point.

I did a restart today and thats when this problem seems to have started. I was unaware of any system updates installing when I did the restart.

re the Don't think computer specs are the problem. Houdini works fine or worked fine until yesterday until I restarted it. Everything works in Houdini apart from it will not render anything.

I have experienced Houdini getting “stuck” on Generating Scene. Have you tried just throwing away the Mantra node and creating a new one?

Restarting wont change anything unless you have made alterations. I am using a mac pro with your OS and H build. It does not hang at all. I laucch from the terminal.

Hi

I have the same problem and I also tried to open Houdini from Houdini Shell, typing> Houdini
Houdini starts but Mantra node is not working anyway.
Is maybe wrong what I type?
Randomly, in the past days it worked a couple of time.

here's the message that appear after I click on Create render node>Mantra:

What happens if you turn on verbose and get a read out to the terminal , it must give you a error message.

When I try to render a scene I get the following read out in terminal:

Mac-Mini:~ johnathanjoy$ No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host
No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host

Just to be clear I am running Houdini Apprentice, When opening Houdini from terminal I am just typing Houdini and this opens the Apprentice version up. I am I doing that right or is there a specific command to open Apprentice?

From the terminal, try starting “hkey” which is the License Administrator. Make sure this says that it has a render license.

This is what License Administrator shows when launching from terminal with “hkey”.

Below is what i type in Terminal to launch Houdini:

Mac-Mini:~ johnathanjoy$ houdini

Houdini Launches fine I set up a simple scene with a skylight and camera and create a Mantra render node in output and hit Render. Terminal updates to show the following:

Mac-Mini:~ johnathanjoy$ houdini
Mac-Mini:~ johnathanjoy$ No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host

On quitting Houdini the Terminal updates to show the following:

Mac-Mini:~ johnathanjoy$ houdini
Mac-Mini:~ johnathanjoy$ No licenses could be found to run this application.
Please check for a valid license server host
2014-11-19 13:29:49.823 houdinifx 13:29:49.823 ERROR: >aqsrv> AQServer.cpp:70: APIException: Exception caught in AudioQueueInternalStop_Sync - error -66671

As you can see in the render pane it hangs on Generating Scene…

Isn't that the dreaded ‘.local’ error that Apple has introduced into our midst with their new Yosemite OSX? Basically they have added “.local” to user name validation and now many applications no longer work, not just Houdini.

So it looks like it's up to Sidefx to sort a problem created by Apple then! Strange thing is this problem started when I restarted my mac with Mavericks installed. I updated to Yosemite hoping it might sort the issue.
