Hello! I'm fairly new to this program, and I'm currently running on Mountain Lion OSX, haven't upgraded to Mavericks or Yosemite because of warnings from the community. I'm currently in school learning these programs so I'm downloading the apprentice version.

I'm trying to run pyro simulations, but every time I apply a fire effect onto an object the program will crash before it even displays a fluid container. Does anyone know a fix for this or would it be better to just upgrade to Yosemite?

Upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.2. Fixes a lot of OpenGL issues. Still outstanding ones but it's more stable.
