Can't get UV pelt to work...

Was running Indie 14.0.201 under Windows 8; just installed 14.0.258, and am getting the same results

Create a grid, dive in, click the UV pelt shelf tool. I'm prompted to select edges, and to use CTRL+LMB to select a hint polygon. When I select an edge, I gather I'm supposed to get an arrowhead showing the direction in which the F key will expand the selection Forward…

I don't see an arrow, just a highlit edge like any other edge selection. F doesn't do anything. I can't select a polygon with CTRL+LMB, despite the tool prompt telling me that I can; the hint polygon that's selected by default stays selected no matter what I do. Holding CTRL adds a little minus to the cursor indicating that I can deselect things by clicking, which is what I'd expect, again, if not for the prompt.

As far as I can see, this just isn't working as advertised–but I'm a total Houdini noob, so maybe it's me. Have I accidentally clicked the ‘don’t show arrowheads and make the tool prompts not work' button? Anybody else seeing anything similar? Suggestions gratefully appreciated…

Loop and path selection was totally rewritten for H14 to be viewport-centric instead of keyboard-centric. Were instructed to use the ‘F’ key to grow the edge selection in the Houdini documentation? If so, can you point us to it so we can fix it?

The new loop/path selection workflow can be found at:

Or there is a video here:

Here's one page that mentions using the F key to advance the selection

http//www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini14.0/nodes/sop/uvpelt

I have a feeling I ran across the same thing elsewhere, but it may have been in an archived tutorial video.

So–sounds like the F-key feature has been superseded by a new method? That's a relief; that means I can stop gnashing my teeth about why it doesn't work. ) Thanks for the assistance.

Just wanted to chime in that I can't get UV pelt hint polygon selection working either, Ctrl-clicking in edge/prim mode on anything doesn't change which shell gets selected to be pelted. Not sure what's going on here since the tutorial videos clearly show that this shouldn't be the expected behaviour at all.

Windows 7 x64 here.

Yeah, control-clicking definitely does not allow me to select the hint polygon, but I found I was able to do it another way

In the parameters pane, there's a slider next to a number field labeled ‘Hint Primitive’. The number field is set to zero by default, and that's the number of the primitive that's being used to pick the shell. You can drag the slider to change the number, or just type a new number into the field. So, in the display options, you can turn on ‘display primitive numbers’; then you can note the number of a primitive that's inside the shell you want, and then enter that number into the field in the parameters pane. If you've also got a UV view up, you'll see the pelt change when the number moves into the right range.

It's very usable, though clicking to select it would be easier. )

Yea, that's what I ended up doing while getting past learning this part of Houdini (just dragging that slider till I get the shell I want), but seriously, what? I'm surprised no one has run into this bug yet, because this is such a fundamental feature…has this actually been noted by SideFX to be fixed yet?

Or is UV Flatten expected to be the standard workflow for working with unwrapping in Houdini? (Manually pelting shells is still extremely useful…)

EDIT: Ok you know what, I just tested on Houdini 13 and pelt works as expected. So this is most likely a bug…
