I've been desperately trying to figure out how to do something like this.

This is almost exactly what I'm trying to do for a project I'm currently working on, but I am stumped.

Any pointers or ideas to get me going in the right direction?

Hi to kick you off ………..

1) make a set of curves in desired pattern.

2) apply UV coordinates to each curve

3) figure out how to drive an colour attribute down the curve based on a attribute like $ID

3) apply a width attribute and profile attribute to the curve, that changes with a attribute…

You have certainly picked a interesting effects thats quite complex !
