I cannot find tutorials on shader/materials, maybe im using the wrong words/terms.
What i need is:
How to add texture maps(Base/diffuse, Spec, Gloss, Normal etc) to an object?

How to create a simple mix of shaders, diffuse/glossy/emission?

Im currently using Blender with Octane Render, but hoping to use Houdini, so i am investigating :-)

Where can i find simple and fresh tutorials(for Free) that are not 3+ years old? (i believe a lot of things have changed from H10 to H14, correct me if i am wrong)
:-)

if you can wait till tomorrow then you will see what's in H15 and there are some changes in that area.

“ÜberTage|2015 - Scott Keating: “VFX in Houdini 15” (look at: 38:00):

no need to wait, the changes are not as big, just fixes.
all what you want is second part of Tea and Cookies tutorial from Dalvi.

I have now watched the new H15 videos,
and i still dont know how to use textures.
One of the videos shows shader material building, but not textures.

With textures i mean my own, i use Substance Painter to create them,
So i bassically need to see how to add them.

In Blender and Octane render it is really easy, and you can easily find guides,
But i cant find any on Houdini!?

Just use Mantra Surface material and apply textures where you need them, by checking Use Map property.

Thank you!
I will have a look at that.

Im still totally new in Houdini,
and im suprised that it is so hard to find info or/and links, on such normal stuff

you should really start here:
http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini15.0/shade/ [sidefx.com]

if you can't find what you're looking for then ask help finding it - it might be in an odd place, and if not that might be an RFE for SESI to add some documentation on that topic.

after all that, you can start looking for tutorials…

Ok, i've almost got it working.
Only(maybe) problem i have now is, my texture is repeating, the full texture on each side on my box, insted of wrapping the whole box with the texture, and that goes for all maps(diffuse, normal, roughness, metallic…etc)

where do i find parameters for scaling, position etc.?

(I've imported a deform box created in Blender, and uv unwrapped, texture painted in Substance Painter)

EDIT: BTW import an OBJ, and im using the mantra surface
Thx

I did a test with FBX, and then all maps fit perfect (i think)

I dont know why OBJ isnt working as it should.

My solution for now:
Import FBX, add Principle shader, apply maps.
- mess with metallic and reflect settings

The take-away here, for the doc team, is that in general the online-world is heading backwards to an oral society, think pre-Guttenberg circa 1440. Literacy is anachronistic.

Haha! It comes to mind a video [youtube.com] I stumbled upon a while ago which is pretty much a funny rant about apps and the inappropriate usage of icons, a subject that touches s/w interfaces in general.

And the facility reaction is to give you these “internet safe rooms” where you can do your on-line research. LOL!

Yes we know this is quickly becoming the sad, new normal imho. Don't know what is the best way to respond to this new world. What with several Houdini related Vimeo/YouTube videos going up every day along with the Forum posts that form docs and workflows, how to keep up if you are fenced off?
There's at least one school like the old school!

Videos are great IMO, but only after you've read about the subject in depth and want to see some practical applications or how the masters do it. Replacing documentation entirely will not happen, at least not with those that want to last.
