Hi folks I am curious to hear some of veterans opinions on overall stability and state of Houdini. Does FX, Indie and Apprentice versions differ in stability and buggines? My own experience, as Indie user, is really solid so far, especially if I take the complexity of the software into consideration. On the other hand, I am mostly occupied with SOPs.

Thanks for any insights.

Cheers,

I'm with Indie on a Windows10 machine and Houdini would often crash for no reason.

I don't even know how to log these crashes, because they can't be reproduced: for example, Hou crashed just now when I clicked on the template flag of a (already cooked) node.

in my experience stability highly depends on Houdini build and specific operations that you use
but I have not noticed differences between FX, Indie, Apprentice, ... of the same build

overall when sticking to production builds I'd rate it more stable than many other DCCs I used
but obviously newer features are always more prone to bugs, however SESI is fast to fix reproducible ones

Thanks for the insights guys, I wish there are more inputs, but well, it is what it is.

Im running windows10 Indie Version 18.5.672 which is fairly recent.
I have had a few "not responding" freeze outs but it is mostly stable.
Based on using many other DCC apps, I save often by reflex.

It has been waaaaay more stable since I switched to Linux. The only thing that still creeps up from time to time is that Fragmentation Error. But its rare and most of the time I can recover my work with the saved crashfile.

I would say that Houdini (running the Fx version) is holding up pretty good. And in 99.9 % of the time it hangs the blame is on me.

Thanks, guys. I've been doing a smaller scale project and it's crashing a lot, especially when trying to render things. But that could be due to 3RD party render engine. Also, Viewport is killing me sometimes and does not display correct info to that point I have to restart Houdini.
