Solaris and Karma » How to convert extracted instances back to point instances
- Antti1999

Hi, I'm trying to wrap my head around LOPs.
I've used the 'layout' node with the 'point instancer' method to place my assets.
Later, I extracted specific point instances with the "Extract Instances" node.
My goal was to modify these instances using physics, since point instances don't work with physics...
Now I'm looking for a way to convert these edited instances back to point instances.
I'm an idiot, please help me.

Solaris and Karma » Material Variation node takes forever to cook

I have a simple scene in which I've scattered 350k pig and rubber toy instances using the point instancer. Everything functions as anticipated and cooks quickly, except for the material variation node. It significantly slows down the process, taking approximately 20-25 minutes to cook. 50k takes seconds, after 60-65k it slow downs exponentially. Task manager shows that Houdini is utilizing only one CPU core, running at 100%. Could this be due to Python usage, as it seems to be single threaded?

I don't think you can, since it's not represented as nodes in USD unlike MtlX
I'm new to Houdini in general and Python too.
When people make their own material managers how do they save selected nodes on a disk and then load it?
I was just experimenting with Houdini couple of days ago and tried to save some pretty complex material nodes with asCode() python function, but the generated code was enormous in size.
Is this the only way? Or correct way? I know this is off-topic and sorry

How to load generated "save vex code to file" back to material library network?
Is there a python way? I couldn't find any info.

So I was flattening out the stage when I was exporting via USD ROP, that was the culprit.

I made a simple scene with an animated camera then exported it with the USD ROP.
I use this command with hcmd.exe to render out 48 frames.
husk -f 1 -n 48 --renderer Redshift "C:\rs_test.usd"
It only renders one frame and then stops. Any ideas?
