Another way is to place your wrangle in detail mode and fetch the value of the attribute using a function, instead of a direct reference to the attribute name.

Type this into the Geometry File name: (adjust the path to match the path to your wrangle)
`details("/obj/geo1/File_List/","fileName")`
Notice the backticks. They are required for the function to be evaluated.
Dude, I have been looking at people recommending this code all morning thinking those were quote marks (yeah, I'm not too observant.) Thank you for pointing out they were backticks.

Houdini Engine for Unreal » Bug? Good Geo Bad VAT, or Bad Geo Good VAT, never Both

I made a simple animation using a Transform Node and Exploded View Node. To prep for the VAT export I used an Assemble Node and an Extract Transforms Node to pack and get Orient and Pivot attributes. Then I used an Attribute Transfer to get the data back onto the geometry. Something is breaking though. When I plug the Assemble into the Reference Geometry input on the Extract Transforms Node, the VAT geometry Export is good, but the VAT's are broken. But if I freeze a null at the first frame after the animation, I get broken geometry, but the VATs work if I put them on the previous geometry export.

Here is the node setup (The tree on the right is the attempt #1, the tree on the left is attempt #2)


Here are the results in Engine


I have no idea what data is added or removed between these two nodes that's creating this issue, but I would love to just run the VAT exporter once and get everything I need.

It's probably not a bug, I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong, so I wanted to check here before I wasted our hard-working developer's time!

Didn't turn out quite as dynamic as I had hoped, but I got to push my cinematic lighting and I learned how to animate in Houdini!

Was going to make this quick but then spent a ton of time playing with playing with COPS. I'm not proud of the rats nest, but boy was it fun.

Well it happened, Creash 15 minutes before deadline cost me 30 minuts of work. I'll pos twhat I could rebuild before the midnight deadline though.



Couldn't get back that spark, but here is something closer to what I had before I lost the work.

Got to working on texturing the gold belt for real!


BTW, that's GSG playdough with color adjustments for the gold, and more adjustments for the leather.

Well, I'm bowing out. There is too much to figure out and too little straightforward, or concise information.
Pretty tough trying to learn how to model, and texture, and render in a new program, and then learn how to build procedures in day.

I'm going back to substance, Zbrush, and unreal, where it's safe. Hats off to all you legends! Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see what you guys make!

Edit: Alright, I got competitive and threw a fit. It's definitely worth the pain to keep going. Just may need to set more reasonable goals.

I can't get the Greyscalegorilla shelf to show up in Houdini. I've followed the instructions and I have tried searching for answers. Is it because I am using Indie that it wont work?

Hi! Yes GSG Studio works with Houdini Indie, the current workflow doesn't use a shelftool, you should check their website and install the Houdini connector:

Okay sweet, I did that, and it does connect and say "sent". How do I access, say, a material that I sent over. I might just be bad at the internet, but I can't find anything that explains it to me that isn't using the shelf tool.

I ran into this problem a few months ago and threw up my hands but I'm back at it.

I am trying to simulate an aircraft sliding in an emergency landing and getting deformed, after I have the geometry breaking and deforming I have been unable to get my original UV unwrapped geometry to function properly as Render geometry over the deformed proxy geometry.

But he copies the name attributes and everything works for him.

So my questions is what attributes are needed to point VDB converted and fractured geometry back to the original geometry?
