Hello there,

I have made root grow VFX. It consist of two parts: hda to generate geometry and UE material to have animation effect. More details in the video.










A have also included project file because there is COP node for generating wood texture.
In UE project you simply open niagara and play with dynamic material parameter.

Basic workflow is follosing:
HDA generates "pipes" with following options: height, radius and number of roots.
After it you bake the mesh and put it in niagara under "mesh render" with material inside MAT folder.
Some tweaks could be made in parameters of material.

I like how the leaves are like confetti in that last shot in your video. Among the uses you mentioned, i could also see it being like a summon spell effect for a plant spirit/creature.
It's simple Niagara system with mesh render (simple leaf geometry) and rotational force. Again, I have submitted the base for the effect.
I can add it as an example no problem.

I can' render out VAT ROP. Even from example files.
Checked both 20.0 and 19.5

Idk if you have the same problem.

LABS also deprecated Labs Flipbook Textures. So there is no way to properly use niagara + houdini.
Only with Niagara ROP but you have huge file with no collision and no optimization.

Quite sad about that.
