Hi
I recently noticed that you cannot reload the image on UVQuickShade node.
It seems that the image is cached somewhere and cannot be reloaded.
Therefore I have to restart Houdini to see the updated results.
Please guide me how to resolve this issue.
Thanks

Technical Discussion » HDA python module doesn't work every first time it is opened

Hello,
If it's just a reload problem just use the “reload(yourModule)” function.
But, as that's the entire module which not found, I suggest you to add your module folder path in your system path :import sys currentPackagePath = "fullPathToYourScript/moduleFolder" if not currentPackagePath in sys.path : sys.path.append(currentPackagePath) #Now, import your module should work import yourModule
Hope that help you.
Thanks Julca
But the python module is a part of my digital asset, How about that?

Hi!
I have a weird problem with Python and Digital Assets:
My HDA has a few Python modules which runs every time I press a certain button.
The problem is every time I start a new session I cannot use the button, It gives an error that the python module doesn't exist.
So I have to dive inside the python module, just add a single space to the code and remove it and save the changes to be able to use the tool. I feel it is because the python module does not reload automatically.
I have been dealing with this problem for quite a while and don't know how to solve it.
It would be great if you can help me with this issue.
Thanks

Could you use the invert selection toggle of the split sop with an expression?
Thanks Gianni
Yes. But only in SOPs. I am talking about a general switcher. One that I can use in COPs for instance.

Hi
As you know the switch SOP node switches the inputs. Is there anyway to switch the output branch based on a certain condition?
If not, that would be a great addition to the next update!

that's a great analogy MartybNz.
I think Houdini to other 3D packages is like Nuke to Photoshop.
you need both to create what you need, but imagine, just imagine there is a little photoshop inside Nuke! will you even leave Nuke?

all it needs is a polymodel sop which can do all the poly operations (extrude, bevel, edge collapse etc. ) in one node. wasnt this the case back in the days?
This is EXACTLY what I am talking about. Just imagine there is a Model node that has all the tools you need in there, just like 3Ds Max. Why should I leave Houdini to other packages when I have such a tool that contains all the modeling toolsets that I need?
The example below is from 3Ds Max's editable poly object. You can convert anything into editable poly and work in there without even adding one single deformer or modifier (well even if you need you can collapse it back to the editable poly)

Hi!
I have been using Houdini for almost 5 years now. I also talked with other Houdini artists and we feel all there is a huge need for a modeling module for Houdini. I mean a separate environment where you can do modeling and texturing in the traditional way and not adding nodes manually for every action. If artists have access to such a module they will never leave Houdini to another package like Max or Maya to create organic / non-organic models. Because the current tools for Houdini is not really easy to use and straight ahead for modeling. We can do EVERYTHING in Houdini, even compositing, but as a 3D package it is expected to have nice modeling tool set. That is one the reasons that artists are afraid of shifting to or starting with Houdini. Because almost every artist starts learning 3D with modeling.
I hope I have proven my point. I would love to hear from other artists about this.

Hi
I would like to know when creating interface for a digital asset, how I can define a file pattern in File parameters for “folders” or “directories”; So that when the user is going to choose a file, when inside a folder and clicks Accept, it DOES accept the folder and doesn't need to click on a file.

Technical Discussion » grouing primitives based on object intersection

Hi everyone
I have been trying to group primitives on one object based on intersection of another geometry. something like Boolean operation which selects primitives that are intersecting with other geometry. well I could not figure it out. my geometries are open surfaces. I even tried to create an integer attrib on both of them and assign the value of 0 to the first and 1 to the other and then use attrib transfer so that I can select them with that attrib. as you might have guessed, it's not working either.
So does anyone know how I can solve this issue? it's really important to me.
Cheers

thanks again!
it's funny that I read the help for pointdist and even read what 3 means for the return value, but I missed the -1
awesome explanation on the code as well!
I appreciate it.

Thanks Manuel!
That's what exactly I want
but can you please explain the python code to me? I mean what is the purpose of the program and how it works.
also in the nearestPrim node, you used the pointdist() method. for the prim number you entered -1. what does that mean?

Hi Houdini lovers
I have a poly geometry and I scatter a bunch of points on it.
Now I want to select the primitives that those scattered points are on them.
What is the fastest and easiest way to do it?
Cheers

I would like to know where and how I can write such an array?
where could it be so that its easily readable and writable?

Hi!
I'm designing a tool and I've faced a problem:
I have an ordered menu which is a list of preset trees. I want this list affect other parameters of the same tool. For instance the first selection changes all of the other parameters to certain custom values (not necessarily calculated) and so on. I also want the ability to user to be able to save the values and name them and then it appears in the same list.
Is there any possible way?
