Thanks for posting. Yep I got it working a couple months back, tracked down the issue.
Im sure not the first time there has been a python2 - 3 bug

Technical Discussion » How to re-cache strokes when using guidegroom?

In my opinion the recache strokes feature in the original guide groom rarely if ever worked in production.
I stress tested it a lot. In my initial tests I would give it the worst case scenario and with each cycle I would go for easier and easier situations for it to solve and even then it wouldn't parse the results that was useable.
If im honest it's a feature i do not miss.
But you are freely able to switch back to the guideGroom 1.0 in H19.5 with the Asset Manager. But i will take the optimized guideGroom 2.0 over it no question.

This issue has been fixed in H 19.5.
Turn on Maintain Even Length Segments when Constrain Length is turned off.
Thank you SideFx for you efforts. I consider these regressions to be resolved.

I thought I would give an update on this as 19.5 nears.
I logged a bug about the removed features back in February. Side Effects Support Ticket: #118070
After the cut brush was added I then received this message.
But last month, I was emailed support about if this feature would come back.
So it looks like this feature is gone and won't be returning any time soon.

I had forgotten about the resample-as-you-go feature though. I agree that this is also a very useful one for the use case you're showing. Will implement that as well. I don't think you'll have to wait for 19.5 for this, we can add this to a daily build.

I apologise for the delay, but our developers are not able to give me any update on this RFE.

Hi hoodniks,
I was wondering if it was possible to import a specific houdini scene with a shelf button.
I've been trying to figure out how to do it in python but my skills are lacking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Andrew

.Don't know how It would work, from the business perspective, to lower the studio licenses, but indie is pretty cheap compared to c4d and compared with a regular freelancer rate, and on the other hand, studio seems too pricy compared with a small studio's income, at least here in brazil
You can rent both Houdini Core and FX for as short as 90, 60 or even 30 days.
This should be affordable for any studio that is actually working on projects. Of course it would be great to have a perpetual license but these options should give any business the opportunity to use Houdini if you want to use it commercially.

Yea I also submitted a ticket via the RFE link with the video.
SESI got back to me almost immediately and said that they appreciated the video.
Submitting via that system gets all bugs and requests tracked into their system.
I will be testing today. And I look forward to the addition of Resample all affected curves during sculpt mode.
Nonetheless I am very impressed at the speed of their response!!

This tool has lost a lot of its functionality especially because of the new ramp UI.
Would love to get an update.

Hi everyone,
Over the past few months I have experimented a lot with the new Guide Groom Sop in Houdini 19.
Groom is the main discipline I work in so I naturally pay attention to any release dealing with tools in this area.
I have notice some major differences in functionality between the new rewritten Sop and the previous one.
Hope this video will highlight some of my thoughts on the change.

@RedhillGames yea depending on which mouse click you are using that just extends/reduces guides forever. It doesnt cut at the boarder of the brush. No solution does.
I've actually tried all the methods that people have suggested. And while i am grateful for the improvised setups they all fail compared to the previous version.
Not to mention that settings between different modes is not saved per mode. One set of settings placed on the Adjust Length is placed also on the Sculpt mode where applicable. IE something like softness and strength.
I think i will have to show the differences between the old guide groom sop and the new one and where is fails the user in quite a number of ways adding far more more operations to achieve the same task.
Thank you for all you efforts.

Technical Discussion » Guide Groom - Resample All affected Curves Removed from H19?

Hi all,
Testing groom tools in H19. The feature "Resample all affected curves" has been removed from the Sculpt option on the Guide Groom sop am I correct?
This makes sculpting guides extremely more cumbersome because the points just float in space if you have lock length turned off which is what you will often want.
In H18.5 if you have lock length turned on but Resample all affected Curves, you had a stretchy guide that you could adjust the length and maintain equal distance between spans.
Is there any plans to have this re-added? is there a ticket? This is a really important feature in sculpting guides, I feel if people dont really know what im talking about i can make a video showing it.
Thanks

I guess no one has had this issue before, or maybe doesnt understand. Here is a quick video.
I feel stupid not knowing what is causing this. It doesn't happen in H18.5.
30 sec video

Hey all,
Very weird issue im having. I just make a Geo object, dive in, make a sphere or box or whatever.
Node is placed, but nothing in the viewport.... until im back at Obj level. I have Show all Objects turned on (which wouldnt make a difference).
But when im back at geometry level is shows up fine.
I tested this on 18.5. Dont get the same behaviour. I tried searching for this.
I know for sure i am missing something simple.
Cheers

tamte's settings for reproducing that mode seem to work
@abvfx but does resample utility even work for you? I get no changes by hitting 'apply' or 'sfiht+R' in viewport. I might be doing it wrong...
Cheers for the confirmation i will try it out once i get on my home system.
Resample does work for me, i selected the selected and then set the point samples and hit apply and it worked. Not sure why it isnt for you or Brian.
I will be doing more tests this weekend for sure.

I will try this asap. Cheers Tomas.
I might have to make another thread for it but another thing I noticed while testing is the sculpt mode.
It moves points without maintaining spacing, unless you check Conserve length.
The problem compared to the old version is in the old guide groom you could adjust the length and maintain the spacing. But now i will have to sculpt and then switch to the Resample Utility, and then apply it... this basically adds two extra steps in the process which makes the whole sculpting process a lot slower. Is this something that i need to RFE or am i missing another parameter or setting?

Hi all,
Im testing V19. Cant seem to find a cut brush in the guide groom tool.
I wouldn't think that SESI would remove it since its very useful in the guide sculpting process. I'm sure its under a different name.
Can anyone point me to it?
