As you mentioned it works at work on linux are you doing this from OSX in the same environment or at home?

This maybe obvious, but I just picked this up from the docs:

The $HSITE directory must contain a houdinix.y directory (such as houdini9.0). If no such directory exists, Houdini will not search in $HSITE.

Yup, I had totally forgot about that note on documentation. This way will work, now I have to find how to make it independent of Houdini's version same as in work.

Are you starting Houdini from that terminal session, or via the Finder?
Vars exported by bash are not system wide, you need to open a terminal and run the Houdini setup from there, then enter houdini or houdinifx to launch houdini from within that environment. That should do it. Depending on your OSX version, there are various methods for setting vars system wide.

I hope this helps.

from terminal, the houdini setup will run automatically with a script I have in .bash_profile and all I do is type houdinifx. Also, I am on OS X Yosemite.


The variables are recognized by houdini, from textport when I am running
setenv $HSITE
I will get the right path

But it seems to ignores everything inside there.

You can get your all otl directories by:

echo $HOUDINI_OTLSCAN_PATH

Thanks for the reply, but I don't want to use HOUDINI_OTLSCAN_PATH, I want the HSITE, is not just the otls that missing, there python scripts, toolbars, dso, presets, icons, etc.

Also, I don't think it has to do with which env variable I am using, something else I am doing wrong using Houdini's env variables in OSX.

I am using $HSITE successfully in work where the os is linux.
But how to have it work in OS X? I have set the environment variable in .bash_profile:
export HSITE=/Users/username/Documents/Houdini
and I can see it when running hconfig -ap:
$HSITE = /Users/csp/Documents/Houdini
but nothing inside there will be available inside Houdini, not the python script under python2.6libs subdirectory or otls or anything else.

What am I doing wrong in OSX?

I am installing the latest production build and I hope everything will go smoothly on that side.

Regarding constrain network. So, I create a sop solver, inside the constrain network geo, which adds constrains of new objects in the existing constrain network. Or can I do it inside DOPs in the sopsolver connected to constrain_networkDOP (input: constrain solvers) which for now deletes the broken constrains?

Hi,

I have a simple setup where I am emitting from a surface packed geometry, both fractured and non. The name attribute is unique for each piece and everything works fine as is.

I would like also to delete some of those based on their age or distance from camera and can be done easily, but its causing pre-fractured objects to explode in the air, without any collision or any other force applied to them. I am guessing that has to do with the point number and I am not sure how to fix this.

There is an attached file to demonstrate the problem.

Also last and least important question, is there any way to have a constrain network to be updated while new pieces are emitted?

I am using stamp() to change the value of the ordered menu connected to a copySOP. I want to change based on the token value and not their order (0,1,2,3). How that can be achieved?

Hi,

the oceanEvaluateSOP in houdini gets phase, frequency and amplitude volumes from oceanSpectrumSOP in order to calculate the surface and vel volumes and finally the displaced geometry and point velocity. Is it possible to reproduce the surface and velocity volumes using just the displaced surface and point velocity to be as close to the original as possible? I guess vel volume can be done using volumeFromAttribSOP.

I think this is the answer to my own question: http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini12.0/commands/takels [sidefx.com]

but unfortunately python version is not yet implemented.

What I want to do is easier for me in python but commands are missing. I could use hou.script(“takels”) but the result is not clean. Let me explain what I am after.

I am building a tool where I want the user to be able to have a parent take and then a list of children with different values on the tool. Then on the DA he will have to select the parent take and hit render.

Pseudocode:
parent = “mainTake”
children = hou.script(“takels -p mainTake”)
for each children create a geoRop and set take parameter, end forloop.
link all geoRops to a mergeRop

Any idea how to do that? The most tricky part for me is how to get children takes in an array.

How can I pre-filter the nodes when I am creating a new operator path parameter? For example the uvtextureSOP on the camera parameter when you open Choose Operator will list only cameras and lights.

I am using more and more point wrangler since H12.5 but I was surprised today when I start using H13 for a new shot and I found that by default velocity transfer from FLIP points to mesh instead of point wrangler, attribute transfer SOP is used. Why is that Jeff ?

I have attached a hip where demonstrated the problem, one source where each hemisphere has different density and viscosity 1000/0 and 100/2. When viscosity for both is 0 everything works great, less dens fluid floats but when I am adding even small viscosity you can see what happens on the video or the attached hip file. The viscous object starts running with out viscosity, then almost stops and then running and again later stops while the water fluid keep going (when is not trapped under the viscous fluid).

Why?

While I am caching VDB for collisions with the extension .vdb when reading the cache, I get an error. As far as I know, this is the correct extension and it is also listed on Houdini's “Choose Geometry” window in the “Show files matching” list.

If I will cache it with .bgeo extension, I get no error and the vdb is there!

Can someone please explain me why is that?

Why you are using @ for global variables as ptnum and Npt read their value while it works with out this? Is this just a good habit?
