My bets are on coil whine.

Zigmund,

On reconsidering this post I realized we are probably definitely having completely different issues as mine was caused in audio monitor speakers almost 3m away from my GPU, whereas yours is in a self contained laptop. I did a brief research into coil whine and I agree with Heileif.

Hi all,

I have a weird issue with render region. When I pull up the box it renders something but not the correct part of the viewport. Its like the camera is offset a bit. Bit weird. Any ideas?

Dear Forumers,

I have been looking at various tutorials and am trying to create a car that crashes, whilst the engine explodes and then crashes into some sand.

This is obviously very complicated but i believe I am beginning to get my head around the workflow.

Currently I would love some advice on how to get my car bodywork to deform in a kind of crumpling way. This also has to look relatively realistic whilst closeup (not crazy closeup but the camera isn't always going to be REALLY far).

Is vellum a good way to go (can the cloth be ramped up to be tough like metal)? Any other tips or links to good tutorials?

Technically it's not a WIP as I finished it and don't have the scene file anymore anyway.

if it isn't too late to chime in, the size of the blast depends on the throw weight of the device and altitude at detonation.
for an 750kt detonated at 3km (air burst) the blast radius would be about 6 km, the fire ball about 1km. the same detonated at 0.5 km or less (ground burst) the blast radius would be around 1.5 km,the fire ball about 1.5 km. don't for get a shock wave which would be about 16km, the cloud would balloon to about 25km

also, if you are going for realism, it being a thermonuclear device, there is a microsecond atomic detonation (fision) to begin the chain reaction for the thermonuclear device (fusion) so you would kinda have two flashes in very rapid succession.

presume you are either the reincarnation or Einstein or Oppenheimer!? Or just a physics nerd

all hail physics nerds btw. I'm a cosmologist myself! not as useful for Houdini sadly!

Dear Forumers,

I am following a tutorial and have come across a problem. The teacher has an old version I believe (i'm on 17.5).

I'm inside a SOPSolver and trying to convert (inside the group i believe) from points to primitives. However the Group create (group) node no longer seems to have a convert tab. What should I do?

I've looked through various other nodes but to no avail. Do I have to write a VEXexpression in a wrangle or is there a node for this?

Dear Forumers,

I have a small shot I would like to do and would like some help and advice (bear in mind I love Houdini and have been fiddling for a few years but really struggle with it). In my scene file is a “skyscraper” made from my logo. I would like to put it into a moon landscape environment (creating this shouldn't be a problem) but I would like simply to give the faces a tiny amount of depth (and make glass) and make the edges like metal or something so it looks kind of like a skyscraper. . My current question is how to make the faces have a small thickness (for the glass) and the edges like the metal bars that hold the panes of glass in. I guess I should duplicate the current geo node so one can be the glass and one the metal.

Any help and advice appreciated.

PPS: I am not intending this to be a PHOTO-REALISTIC skyscraper just an arty piece

I am attempting to do something and I would like to get a .png file into a geo node.

Do I need an .ai file? Or is there a way to get geometry (or something inside a geo node) from a .png (or .jpg)?
