Hello
I've recently installed Renderman (ISR) on my computer, but it seems like it's impossible for Houdini Indie to make it to work. I follewed a tutorial from Pluralsight, which worked.
I don't know what wrong. Houdini / Renderman is telling me I need a prman.
It seems like I can render, but “just” need to install that prman somewhere.
Thank's in advice!
Regards,
Atle

Hi
I might wonder what's the fastest way to render in Mantra. Is it by render to disk or is it to render in background?
Cheers

Thanks guys. It's good to hear they being used sometimes. I think I might look deeper into the systems.

Hi
I'm just curious, but how much do companies use L-systems in production? Is it an important skill to have when applying for jobs in the industry?

I think it could have been cool too. I actually tried with the carton shader and an outline shader, but it didn't looked good. I miss the old carton shader way back in the days.

Hi guys,
I have been working on a Matt Dixon drawing. My goal was not to make it look like a carton drawing but rather to make it look like something in between.
Let me know if you got any feedback :-)
Cheers

Thank you very much guys!
It was a tricky one this model but in the end the normal sop was a very good choice. I just tried to get the cusp angle to work proper (by guessing) and finaly I made a good choice.
The cusp normals is a good setting to play with, but do you know a good method to choose the right angle without guessing like I did?

Hi there,
I have modeled a Troy Roadster. But when I rendered the car, something went wrong with the shading. The geometry is bending a bit on the front and where it bends, the shading goes wrong. Do you have any advices?
Thank you!

Hello
I'm having a strange problem, I guess…
Currently I'm working on a model, but strangley enough an edge (that is actually there) disappears when I turn the viewport into right view. When I'm having the viewport back on the perspective view, then the edge is back again.
Why is that happening?
Thanks in advance.
Atle

Hi
I'm an excited Houdini user at hobby-level. I really like the modeling in Houdini. Compared to Maya and Max and other programs with layers, I just think the node-based system is a lot more easy to navigate and move around.
Yesterday I had a chat with a guy from the industry, who told me Houdini was bad choice as a modeling application compared to Maya. The reason was that Maya is the most used application in production-companies. But do You think that could be changed over the years or is Maya just the the best choice? I know Maya, but can't see why it's concidered that great compared to Houdini. I just don't see why people think Maya is so much better.
My question are: Do You think Houdini would become a standard-modelling tool in future? Has it been used as a modelling-application at some companies?
Best regards,
Atle

Thank you Chevita!
At the moment I “only” got my focus on modeling techniques, but animations is definitely an area I'll try to practise more in future.

Hi guys,
I have been modeling a robot in Houdini, then rendered with Mantra and editing in Nuke. Does it looks good or bad? I was following a tutorial from 3dtotal by Riccardo Zima (a huge thumb up for his tutorial: https://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/1643-making-of-the-orange-lightwave-by-riccardo-zema-character-robot-orange [3dtotal.com] !). I converted his techniques into Houdini.
Cheers!

Hi Christopher,
I might do some rigging, but I'm a bit slow to make that happen. I think I'll upload the model, so you guys on the forum can do some rigging if you'd like.
Cheers :-)
