I need to do several interior renders, and would like to render using DR to speed up renderings. So it is single frame but distributed over 3 machines.
Few questions:
1. Is it possible to do that (using -H option) with Escape license on one machine, or on every machine I need to have licensed Houdini?
2. Is it possible to do DR with hqueue?

Is it possible to override Noise Level per object or material? I tried with material using Properties but it is still affected by settings of output node.

If I model in another app or get model that is done in another app, and most of the time as obj. I made script that goes through groups, ‘extracts’ them as geos (and do few more things). So instead of one geo node I have several, based on groups. I like it that way, just easier for me to organize. Not sure if this is correct workflow, but I hate when I see material SOP with billion of tabs … Also you can drag and drop materials in IPR as bonus

I would love to see LSCM algorithm as option in Unwrap SOP. Select edges as seams and do unwrapping. Also options to scale UV according to pixel size, pack them, and of course support to multi tile UV, udims support.

I thought that this is normal behavior of packed prims, you lose groups after packing geo.

I am getting unpredictable results with packed primitives and materials assignment.
Is this one of correct procedures?
1. import object
2. assign material with materials sop (to various groups)
3. Add Pack sop
4. Add copy node and go crazy
Sometimes it render materials but in some cases it just discards them. I noticed that if I am overriding parameter in materials SOP it will discard it, but sometime even there are no overrides it will discard assigned materials.
Am I doing something wrong?

As Maverick is going to be released today, can someone tell are there any better OpenGL performances in Houdini?

How I see is that Mantra Surface is not meant to be customizable too much, it is more like uber shader, put it in scene, add textures, tweak settings and thats it. Mostly for users that do not want to deal with under the hood things.
For purpose of high customization you should use Surface Model, and you can build your own interface by promoting inputs, adding parameter and re-arange all that with Edit Parameter interface (Rclick on node). Also you can steal some ideas from Mantra Surface
