doesn't help if we can't see what you can see.
post a screen print, saying here the selection is working but it's sooooooo dim.
then other ppl can either agree with you or disagree and say...nah...that's normal.

always simplify things when debugging.
here, look at this extremely simple file, just works. No I won't be forensically going thru your file, you know your file better than anyone so try and spot the difference.

(I'm not an expert, just working things out on the fly)
try this:
01) connect the hf to your hf erode 2nd input, the greyed out icons should come alive
02) click on the icon, start painting, you'll see a couple of nodes added for you

Hi,
The behaviour of Houdini closing without informing the user was partially fixed within the past week or so (next production build) and was fully fixed in the next release.
Some other useful tips for determining an issue specific to licensing:
Generate a license diagnostic from hkey/sesictrl.
As you can see in the screenshot above, there are no problems with the license.
The problem apparently turned out to be in the video card, but for this I had to guess, although I expected to see this message from the houdini.
OK, you guessed it...like I told you so.

LOL, you reckon using the cracked version will fix your problem ? try looking at your graphics card rather than throwing a tantrum.

well if you put
in the Iterations at the end, you'll get 4
change your Distance in control to 0.25 and you'll get 8 iterations
(probably a bit confusing when you say local attributes tho, the loopIter are attributes that are readily widely avail, not just temporary local to some wrangle)
point(0,0,"loopIter",0)

a bit convoluted trying to guess your aim so i could be on the wrong track....sue me.
just go into the control and drag around Target. Naturally, you can adjust Iter Distance too.
(just doublecheck if you need to + 1 in the points in the line creation ie. if you want a line to have 4 divisions, then it has 5 points)

if your brain likes the use of multi switch like you have in your orig setup (rather than the nested if), here's how:

Houdini Lounge » VEX: reading normals

Hi,
found an intersting (for me) thing (a really simple one but I'm stuck.
Reading the point normals via@N; // dont know if the normals are anyhow, anywhere basically existent. Neccessary? vector normal1 = point(0,"N", @ptnum); v@normal;
shoudnt be normal1 the same as N? I get normal1 = {0,0,0} in the spreadsheet.
And no, I can not use @normal1 = @N.
when you declare vector normal1 = blah;
that is a temporary variable (in some sort of wrangle?). That's not creating an attribute for use throughout your network.
so I can declare
vector tempdir = blah;
so I can do something with this in my wrangle, maybe to work out some facing direction...once you exit the wrangle...tempdir no longer exist.

AAlhosainidon't invest time/effort in it, because Autodesk has stopped MCG dev since version 2018, so they've made the decision for you...no morevusta
if you most likely just want to create static geos..well then just get Apprentice and take it for a spin...absolutely nothing to lose except your time...but you HAVE to pay that way.
I've done enough MCGs to know that Houdini is far more flexible
doing stuff like this with MCG will not leave you with much hair left...
speaking about FREE...Blender 2.93 are going nodal too...I can see already it's way better than MCG but not at Houdini's maturity yet (obviously) why not take Blender out for a spin too ?
I respect MCG surely, but still no much learning recourses available. Houdini is the master of the proceduralism, with the ability to combine your geo with a robust fluid dynamics effects, fractals, L-trees, Vex..etc, which are missing in the other 3d platforms like Max.
I really envoy Blender community for the continues developing they get, but still going to blender means you should re-learn many aspects you have already mastered in Max for instance, and you need time to get used to it, and to practice it.
other nodal max plugins are popping up so maybe nodes in max is not quite dead, just maybe MCG took the wrong path.

NicTanghejust worked it out on the fly i think...so a circle is just an identical segment being incrementally rotated until it perfectly joins
How did you arrive at that formula ?
Btw thx u a hero.
back on itself so i started with 360/N...that didn't quite work out so i simply tried 180/N...that magically worked with one side constantly facing X direction, then it's a simple case of offsetting by 90...so really didn't set out with any fancy formula in mind, just do something...see something....then deal with it.

here, set up your foundation like this so that prim 0 will ALWAYS face Z, no matter how many sides there are in your foundation.
(I picked Z instead of -Z...just easier to see for me, same difference)
