Hey thanks for all the help!
Never noticed that bout the snap tool, that's super handy!
So how would I go about using the expression - point(surface_node, point_number, attribute, index)
Would I put that directly into the X,Y and Z fields of my null's translate node?
Thanks
Pete

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone could help me here, I'm just trying to constrain a null to a point in my scene.
Thanks,
Pete

I haven't got it working, but there's hope!
Looks like the feature will be out in a later version (nice if it's before H16)
Check this thread - https://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=42184 [sidefx.com]
They actually mention this as a new feature in 14.

Hi there,
Just wondering how you would go about cycling an animation in Houdini. I have a simple little aim on a couple of channels that I'd like to cycle.
Also are there other types like pingpong or linear (continue in curve's direction)
Thanks!

Hey it works in 14! I'm amazed that I could open the file!?
I'll grab the latest build and see if that's any better.

Here's the tute -
https://vimeo.com/66504826 [vimeo.com]
it was actually quite interesting, I could see that you could make some pretty cool stuff with those tools.
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me with animation though, which makes it less useful.
I'm on Version 15.0.244.16 (15.0.244.16) OSX.
I'll keep messing with it and see if I can figure it out, it's hard though being new to Houdini to know if I'm seeing a bug or just doing it wrong.

Hi All,
I included a scene file, if anyone has the time, please check this out.
Is it just that chops don't update with the timeline??

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » How can you output to point or mesh colours with H15?

Thanks guys,
Well that's a shame! Got my hopes up there. It's not only in the slide but it is mentioned too, so hopefully it's not that far away.
I'm a little reluctant to bake to texture and read those textures to verts as I'm pretty new to Houdini, also I can see some issues arising with hard edges (using that technique). Say you baked the lighting and colours of a cube, it wouldn't retain the hard edges since the verts would get the average of the lighting on each face. I'm guessing that's why they'd have baking to points and meshes as separate things. It was similar in softimage.

Hi there,
I was checking out this masterclass on Mantra rendering in H15 and something popped up that I have been trying to do for ages, baking to point colours, yeay! But I can't figure out how to it
They never got to mentioning quite how in the vid and the docs don't seem to mention anything either…
Any ideas?

McNistorOh yeah, looks like it slows the effector from reaching the goal maybe.
It doesn't change the length of the bones at all actually

Hi there,
Okay, last question for the moment Just trying to get my head around things.
I was doing a tute on stretchy bones which was great, until I tried to animate it. It seems that the chops only update while interacting in the viewport but not during playback.
I feel as though there must be something simple I am doing wrong.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Pete

Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has tried to make a soft IK setup like this? I used this ages ago in Soft and loved it. I basically lengthens the bones a little to remove that pop you get when an ik chain stretches right out.
I'm just getting into rigging in Houdini so I don't like my chances but I might have a crack at it…

Hey thanks guys. Yeah, it was a really nice tool for animating and I don't think it would be huge to implement. I saw someone had created a max script for it once.

Hi there,
Hey does anyone know if it's possible get Houdini to auto select a preferred transform tool after you select an object?
This is something that existed in XSI and was super helpful for animating.

Hmmm, I always have to set the $JOB path when I start Houdini since it defaults to nothing set. Also I haven't ever messed with the scan path. I think I'll just manually load them for now.
