Hey guys,

Trying to figure out if there is a way to “cheat” filling a volume faster with FLIP fluids.

I have a glass that I am pouring liquid into and I feel like the rate at which it is filling my volume is accurate, im just wondering if there's a way to speed it up, basically I'd like to cheating the volume of the fluid a little bit. If I remember correctly, in Real Flow for example if you increased internal pressure the particles would “take up more space” in the glass.

Thoughts?

to not overcomplicate things, you need just 1 line of code

POP Wrangle acting only on in_sphere group

@age += @TimeInc;

then 2 adjustments:
1. source Jitter Born Time set to None, so that age starts as 0
2. popsolver uncheck Age Particles, since now you are doing it yourself

Consider that a compiled shader for prMan, is a compiled shader for prMan regardless of the software package that is rendering it. with that in mind:

The shader I build to use in Houdini can easily be used later in the pipeline in Maya, or any other software package that is prMan compatible.

It's a universal render engine for everyone in the pipeline. Considering the ability to embed a shader into an hda/otl and the bridge built between other software using Houdini Engine… It's a no brainier for me.

I can build a tool using a prMan shader, tuck it into the SHOP of the tool I'm building, create the hda/otl, pass the tool off to a maya user later in the pipeline using Houdini Engine… the Maya user has full use of the tool, and the shader parameters, plus the results will render exactly like they did during Houdini development because everyone in the pipeline is using prMan.

I don't see anything but benefit for both SideFX and Pixar.

Can we please, please, please get support for RenderMan 19?

Is there a way to compare two geometry in houdini like certain attribute like Position and then color based on difference

There's a command line tool: geodiff


% geodiff
Usage: geodiff <fileA> <fileB> [<fileA1> <fileB1> ]
Display differences between geometry files.

Options:
-t tol Specify floating point tolerance
-w Ignore missing attributes (only output warning)
-I Skip intrinsic attribute comparison
-P Skip primitive (and vertex) comparison
-T Skip type info comparison
-r “Regression test mode”; searches “correct” directory to
determine what files need to be matched in current directory

NOTE WELL: This is known not to handle:
- packed primitives
- mixed primitive groups (those with trim curves)
- pasted surfaces
- checking if contents of index tables match
- any checks of profile curves/trimming states
It has no known unknown shortcomings.
