Are you planning to include methods for creating different-sized scales like these chameleon scales?
Aha, a post showed up ! haha I got like 7 emails or something!
Sure yeah, there's already controls for size/density, but I think the variation like in your reference images would be more suited for the randomization tab,like a slider to control random size as a multiplier on the scale size.

Thank you ! i'm working on the detail part of the HDA right now , extrusions, smoothing, inset, uv's different scale types etc..
Here's another render ( without uv's / different scale types, just think the lighting is pretty cool :p )

For the past 7 weeks or so I've been learning Opencl and I have converted most of the vex parts of the setup to opencl wrangles.

Hello !
I decided to revisit this, , cleaned it up, rewrote stuff, added stuff, lots of progressss :p
I split things up ( originally it was one HDA for painting, sculpting texturing, scales etc.. waaaay too much at once haha) gonna focus on just the scales now. More manageable, doable and fun :p

I know this is super late but I ran into the same issue, I fixed it by adding a prev UI Event Reason variable, if it == Start, then it's picked. :p
