Solaris and Karma » Ambiant Occlusion in mtlx standard_surface?

Well yes. The AO texture map is a black and white map (attached to this post). So I'm using the ramp to get a darker version of the base color and I plug it into the BG of the mixer. Then the AO map decides what zones are in normal color and what zones are in the darker color. I think it's the right setup but I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks a lot Enivob for the very informative post.
I want to adjust the AO using an AO texture map, so I did this setup: see enclosed pic. Is this correct?
As you said, when I try to render with XPU, it doesn't work. Will this be fixed in future releases?
Thanks

Hello,
Could anyone tell me how to use and plug an AO map file into a mtlx standard_surface?
I used the node MTLX tiled image, then I got a mtlxambientocclusion node, but how can I use it?
Thanks
G

No such attribute. I think the author of the asset forgot to remove this expression and as a result the object has no material. The blackish color I was seeing in the render was generated by a ramp inside a color. Sorry I should have been more observant! But thanks for the help...

Hello, I'm doing more tests with comparing Karma CPU and XPU. I have found 2 more differences. Please check the attached pictures. Can these be fixed or are they more XPU limitations?
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks Jsmack. When I middle click, the expression just disappears. Also I can't find anything useful in the geo spreadsheet.
Could it be there's no material?

Hello, I'm no crazy, I can SEE this material in the render view!
The material is inside an asset that has some embedded stuff.
When I go to the material node's parameters, the material path is : `chsop("../../mat_back")`
But I cannot find the material in the path here. HELP!

Hello Jsmack, thanks for your help.
Recently I simplified my scene using a simple grid as a ground, and I replaced my 3 lights system by a simple distant light that does not use color temperature. I found this light on the "LOP Lights and Camera" shelf. Are these lights different from the one in the regular "Lights and Camera" shelf? They don't seem so. But the light I kept should be compatible with Karma XPU.
I think the material I use on the ground should be compatible with XPU as it is a MTLX network.
AND I upgraded to Houdini 19.0.622.
Still the same problem.
I'm enclosing a zip file with my scene and textures in case someone has the time to look at it...
Thanks!
G

Yes, the floor has a material X network inside a material library stage node. I really don't understand what's going on here. Other Houdini users have exactly the same lighting between CPU and XPU?

There's too much difference between CPU and XPU as for the lighting. Can this be fixed?

I tested this a bit further. I think Karma XPU render is working. I have a laptop with an Nvidia graphic card and it's working fine. I also have a desktop with an Intel GPU and there, I thought it was not working but in fact, it did work, but very slowly. I'm afraid my Desktop rig is a bit too slow and old...

Is it possible to get help on this? The stand does not appear, neither its textures. Where is the material library? The Turntable camera is difficult to operate, does not work like in the video.

I set my render options to use XPU. In the past it was working well with materials such as the Principle Shader. Now I tried to build a full MTLX tree and it doesn't work. My render options are setup for XPU with filters but the Houdini does a CPU render.
What's happening?

Ho!! I download this texture pack : https://3dtextures.me/2022/03/09/concrete-019/ [3dtextures.me]
I want to create an MTLX material. I got a Collect node, an MTLX standard surface node, etc.
The texture pack has both a normal map and a height map (for bump).
Do I have to mix the 2 in order to get the right look?
