I have done over the weekend some fun test about mantra and i wanted to know how far i can go with mantra. so i set a scene up and the resolution went to 100k x 100k and i pressed render.
after 2 days rendering i had a .pic file with a size of 44.3GB :-)

so now my problem comes when i open the image viewer i see only black. whats the best way to look a xxxxl image ?
i know this resolution isn't common but mantra surprised me with a file and i want to open it :-)

first of all i think we should wait till siggraph and wait for the sesi announcement they will give :-)

when you have seen the ari danesh first steps webinars you would have see a houdini 12.5 program in his program folder. :-)
i think there will be some news about it.

600 hours rendering time on a i7 2600k… thats a long wait :-)
but it looks nice :-)

how is the light shadow setup? did you use Ray-Traced or Depth Map?
i always try to cut the render time under 20min per Frame (8 threat's) mostly it works.

hi,

the new intel cpu's with the 2011 socket has got a limit of 64gb ram.
the current usd prices i don't know but it should be under 3000$ inclusive 64gb ram.

i havent tried it at the moment, but i know that microsoft has released remoteFX that can split the GPU to the vm's. there are some videos that shows a cad running under a vm or even a game :-)

under linux there is spice but i also don't know the current state what it can do and what can't be done. the virtualmachine is the kvm.
