I want to be able to move points with the edit sop at times without the axes handles showing. Yes I could turn off persistent handles each and every time I want to tweak a few points, but I want this so it makes pushing points about more touchy feely. Just a toggle that works on operations like the edit sop where you have many interactions with the same sop, to be able to toggle the handle off until you want it back again, not just until you select another set of points.
The other is to be able to have a keystroke to toggle the poly extrude to go between controlling the local transforms of the selected faces to global transforms. Just a thing or two to make the process more touchy feely.

I wrote up a quite detailed solution to the constraint problem and how you tackle it in Houdini here. It should have all you need and if it doesn?ft, ask me and I will find out for you.

Technical Discussion » BUG: viewport curption then crash 7.0.192

On my Linux SuSE install of 7.0.192 i have started getting a glitch that was there before but more prevalent now. it is something that could probably be blamed on my set-up. or my G-force FX 5900.
I get a viewport that is not redrawn proply (I can save if I am quick) then the cursor jumps about often grabbing my Taskbar and dragging it to a position where it is a bother to return it. then dose a core dump.
The thing is this has happened before with other releases of Houdini but this release seems to be more prone to this. Also the cursor jumping about makes it hard to say it is Houdini fault, but it happens after the viewport glitch and before the core dump. It has happened 6 times in the 8 hours since i installed 7.0.192 but before with other releases it has been behaving its self better. Maybe 3 times a week in other releases.
The scenes I am working on has only a few bones in it (less than 5) in files that started as blank.

Yes I find that ctrl X just deletes and doesn?ft copy, and it shouldn?ft be a big ask not to dump the selection when you use the mouse.

Yes and the answer is if you click with your mouse you loose the selection, so you need to use the arrow keys to go to the new position, where you want to paste then hit ctrl V.

dose anybody have a VOP to solve a triangle?
By solve a triangle I mean if you supply it a side and 2 angles or 3 sides or 1 angle and 2 sides, you can have it work out all other angles and side lengths. I was planning to make one and just thought I would ask, saving my self reinventing stuff.
I will be making it with inner and outer VEX code so it will be easy to shair and convert into a commercial version by somebody else.
So dose anybody have anything like this lieing about or will I get coding?

I had a gforce 4 mx 440 that did the job, if you have a friend that can lend you there new NVIDIA card for an hour you could try things out cheaply.

After some more tinkering I found a primitive SOP if you set the
Face/Hull > Close U = * open
then delete one side of the now wireframe ribbon with a delete Sop
you can add a fuse if you like
but the real challenge will be taking the mess of lines and turning them into a representation of the ground.

I am working on a contour map that I will have to turn into a mesh. In MAX I connected the splines (they were broken where the height labels were) then set them to the heights that were labeled. So I had splines running along the contours at the appropriate heights. In order to import the splines from MAX I had to turn them into extruded sections (think ribbons) I exported an OBJ file and now I have these ribbons in Houdini.
How do I turn these ribbons into splines?segmented poly splines are OK
Just to make it interesting the ribbons have triangulated faces.
Any ideas on how to turn the contour splines into a mesh that represents the contours faithfully?

I am using the free SuSE version and seeing the shareware bits saying ?gget the real thing?h and i will when cash is flowing again. My question is how do you get the windows to behave like they should in regard to having a parameters panel stay above the Houdini interface and not be put to the back, behind the full screen Houdini window?
Also can i make the Houdini interface ?gfullscreen?h no gaps around he sides?

I turned of the borders on a Houdini window in KDE and now I cant get it back. on any other window you would hit alt F3 and you would get the menu to get the border back but I cant get the menu to pop up for Houdini. if I open another Houdini it has a border but the first Houdini window to be opened will always have no border.
any ideas?

It isn?ft easy my father is 57 a bricklayer and he is trying to switch over to being a macadamia nut farmer. There farm is about 10 years old and just coming up to being able to provide enough of an income for my parents. The building industry is booming now, he can make plenty of money but the work is getting harder as he gets older. My older brother was a bricklayer and has started a multimedia business, and having difficulty making it a profitable enterprise. My father believes if my brother was working in the building industry he would have plenty of money, there is more work than there are workers.
I guess selling “fluff” (that is what we make) you have to make pretty good fluff, there are many people wanting to get away from “real” work to our land of fluff. Don?ft get me wrong we can and do work very hard at making fluff. But come the apocalypse  , VFX artists will be having a hard time finding work. Although we will be able to know what everything will look like with all the post apocalyptic wastelands and vehicle we have made in the past in 3D.
So you have to become a pretty fast and efficient maker of fluff, that is why you use Houdini it makes fluff that the other fluff tools would get all fluffed out trying to make.

Hey I was a apprentice bricklayer for 9 months… then i went back to school and discovered 3D
I have only been employed in 3d retail visualization or animation since… I would call that a living. I didn?ft go to university because there were no courses in 3d animation around when I was leaving school, just collage courses. I don?ft plan on getting a “real” job any time soon, I am not a shinning example of success yet but I am working on it.
