Hello!
So I am batch exporting models from Houdini. I want to move the pivot to the center of each named primitive. Once that is done I want to export the model as an FBX and have the new local pivots still intact. Can anyone help with this?

Technical Discussion » Making string attribute from File Name

Hey everyone,
Can anyone direct me how to make a string attribute from a file name of a imported model?
So for example here is an example path: A:/PROJECTS/MODELS/Cool_Models/Big_Models/Wall_01.FBX
All I want is Wall_01 as a string attribute I can access.
Now I want to switch to a different model on each frame, so I need that string attribute to automatically update with the file name.

You could use the Enumerate SOP in the Piece Attribute mode (Mode = "Enumerate Pieces")
Yup this is the solution, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

So I have a model with 12 unique path names. I want to replace the path with a string number. So for the first path, it would be replaced by the number 1. For the second path, I want to replace that with the number 2 and so on all the way to 12 in vex.
Anyone have any ideas?

Are you in vex, python = v1.zfill(10), or hscript = padzero(size, value)? Also it would have to be a string instead of an int or float I believe.
I am currently using the connectivity sop, setting connectivity type to Primitive, and that is creating a class attribute. I have a prefix with "Mesh_". I just need the class attribute to be Mesh_00 instead of Mesh_0.

So my class attribute number starts with a "0" but I would like to take the class attribute that start with 0 and make it with a padding of 2 and make it a 00, then 01, 02, 03... ...10, 11, 12 and so on.

I cannot for the life of me get this to work. hah! Can anyone bring any new solution to export an FBX sequence as separate files frame by frame?
SyntaxError: ('invalid syntax', ('tool_1', 3, 17, 'node = hou.node(\xe2\x80\x9c/obj/file1/rop_fbx1\xe2\x80\x9d)\n'))

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Importing OBJ Files Then Exporting As OBJ Loses Hierarchy

If I import an obj fie that has multiple objects and directly export (with zero changes) to a Geometry ROP as a Obj I lose the hierarchy when I take it back into other packages, it is from that point one solid object. I DO NOT WANT TO EXPORT AS ANY OTHER FILE TYPE. OBJ ONLY. Can anyone help?
While obj supports tagging of groups and objects within one file, Houdini does not support exporting multiple objects in one obj export.
Wow that sounds like a very basic level thing that Houdini should support.

I'm not sure .obj can hold such information, it's a relative simplistic geometry format
it can hold named poly groups that would come in other packages as flat objects
or do you have an example of .obj file that contains hierarchy that you exported from another package and trying to match?
Okay attached so attached is two screen shots,
1. What we export from Cinema then import into Houdini
2. What we export from Houdini back into Cinema
"two_objects.obj" is directly from Cinema with a hierarchy.
"two_objects_Exported.obj" is directly exported from Houdini without a hierarchy.

Technical Discussion » Losing Path Attribute When Exporting OBJ

How do I keep this attribute on export so when I reimport the attribute is there?
obj doesn't support string attributes so you'll need to use a different format.
The native format, bgeo(.sc) is the preferred format when re-import is intended.
The model I imported originally was a obj with a string path attribute so that cannot be correct. I should be able to export it somehow with this attribute.

Hey everyone,
I am unwrapping this object with Labs Auto UVs and I am not sure how to fix uv overlapping. Seems every option has this issue. Seems as though shortest path is giving the best results so far. Can you point me in the right direction?

Technical Discussion » Exporting FBX Frame Range As Separate FBX Models?

Hey everyone,
Was curious if there was a way to export a ROP FBX Output frame range as separate FBX models per frame? With a filecache node and exporting obj files this is easy but with FBX files it doesn't seem to work the same way.

Hello everyone,
I have a few questions..
Hope you can help.
Vincent Griffith
I have a few questions..
- Is Mantra wanting OpenGL or DirectX Normal Maps?
- If I use the texture transfer on the Labs Maps Baker is it altering the Normal maps from Directx to OpenGl or vice-versa or is it straight up transferring the Normal maps?
Hope you can help.

Hey everyone,
So my mind is being blown. I deleted the velocity attribute from an object that was sim'd and it still has motion blur at render time in Mantra & Redshift... is the motion blur not actually being calculated from the velocity attribute?

GOT IT! So what I did was create a Null, right clicked on the Null and edited the parameters and added a string and typed $F2 into the box and referenced that in the spot for the file name.
Big_Ball_`chs("../Frame/newparameter")`_LOD0.obj
Resolves to Big_Ball_01_LOD0.obj
SO PUMPED!

I need the padding of 2 for this to work. So it would need to be 01, 02, 03, etc.
