What is the best way to do this?
Are there a range of methods?
Thanks,

PS: This is for example controlling the translation of an object by the frequency of a sound wave, although I definitely going to experiment with more.
Plugging audio into Houdini?

You'll need to use CHOPs, specifically the AudioIn CHOP. Then you can hook it up to a variety of audio-processing CHOPs - Envelope, Spectrum, Ptich - to extract information such as volume, spectral analysis, and dominant frequency (or frequencies). These CHOPs work best in Time Slicing mode for realtime work (Common tab, “Time Slice” toggle).
