Best way to import meshes into Unreal 4 from Houdini?

Am I supposed to change the units in Houdini to centimeters and work like that or leave it at meters, instead scaling it up in unreal during the import step? I'm having some trouble with a skeletal mesh that I have brought into houdini which breaks when I try and retarget animations to the mesh. It becomes massive even though the mesh itself is fine when brought in so I am trying to determine if houdini is the culprit somehow when the skeletal mesh is scaled in some way.

I am tried both scaling in houdini prior to export, scaling in unreal during import and changing the units in houdini. (and then scaling) To no avail. So the problem might lie within unreal and how it handles retargeting between meshes with differing skeletons. Either way I am completely lost.

I guess, if you convert it into digital asset and import it in UE4, the houdini plugin should handle all the conversions automagically (scale, axis, smooth groups).
